Each year, I set intentions for the new year…not resolutions, but meaningful areas of focus that guide how I care for myself! At this stage of life, I’ve learned that real change doesn’t come from doing more, but from doing things with intention.
Two years ago, my focus was taking an inventory of my home. I touched every single item I owned and decided whether it truly belonged in my space! Letting go of what no longer served me created clarity, calm, and room to breathe, both physically and mentally.
Last year, at 47, my intention shifted inward. I took an inventory of my body! I focused on healing through intentional, whole-ingredient foods and committed to moving my body daily, often reaching 15,000–20,000 steps. That year completely changed my life! After a health scare the year prior that threatened my life, these simple, consistent habits helped me rebuild strength, restore balance, and reconnect with my body in a way I never had before.
Now at 48, as I approach 49 this spring, my intention has shifted again! This year is about taking an inventory of my mind…building routines that reduce stress, create clarity, and support a healthy mind, body, and soul. And it starts each morning with something simple: how I begin my day.
Mornings don’t have to feel rushed, chaotic, or stressful to be productive. In fact, some of the most powerful habits for your health…and your hair…start with the simplest routines, right in your bathroom!

Stress is one of the biggest disruptors of overall wellness! Chronically elevated stress hormones can impact:
• Sleep quality
• Digestion and nutrient absorption
• Hormonal balance
• Hair growth cycles and shedding
When mornings begin in a state of rush or overwhelm, your body stays in “fight-or-flight” mode longer throughout the day. Simple, grounding habits help shift your body into a calmer state, one that supports healing, growth, and balance!
Your bathroom is often the first space you step into each morning. Turning those few minutes into a mindful routine can make a noticeable difference in how you feel all day long.
Here’s how small, intentional actions can create big results:

1. Start With Stillness
Before reaching for your phone, take a few slow breaths while brushing your teeth or washing your face. Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping lower cortisol levels and reduce morning anxiety.
Drinking a glass of water in the morning supports digestion, circulation, and cellular hydration. Proper hydration helps your body deliver nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles, an essential step for healthy hair growth!
And yes, this is the part where I gently remind myself to practice what I preach… because I’m definitely guilty of hydrating with coffee first. Water before caffeine is the goal, progress over perfection, right?

Whether it’s a calming skincare routine, a soothing scalp massage while shampooing, or simply applying moisturizer with intention, these small moments remind your body it is safe and cared for!
A routine doesn’t need to be elaborate. Consistency is what signals stability to your nervous system. Even a 5–10 minute routine done daily can help reduce stress and improve focus.

Hair health is deeply connected to what’s happening internally. When stress is managed:
• Blood flow improves to the scalp
• Hormones are more balanced
• Nutrient absorption improves
• Hair growth cycles are better supported
Lower stress doesn’t just benefit your hair, it enhances mental clarity, emotional balance, digestion, and energy levels throughout the day!

You don’t need to overhaul your entire life to feel better. Starting with a simple morning bathroom routine is an easy, accessible way to build healthy habits that ripple through every part of your well-being.
When you take care of your nervous system, your body responds, and your hair reflects that care.
Sometimes, the smallest habits create the strongest foundations!
